Lenny Kravitz live at SSE Wembley Arena Saturday 6th Dec
The temperature dropped all of a sudden on Saturday in London. A proper chill in the air, that burning sensation on the ears, and chilly feet and xmas shopping madness around town. But the closer you got to the SSE Arena in Wembley, the less you could control the excitement. Lenny Kravitz was in the house!
Set list from the night below via spotify and youtube.
I'd waited about 20yrs for this, and the gig, was amazing... the man is a legend!
A few technical issues delayed the start but we all forgot about the delay and went to that special place - the place where only live music can take you too - where melody and harmony, and groove and team work and energy and passion and everything come together, united by a bunch of people jamming and having a great time - and everyone's along on the ride!
The technical team was under pressure to sort out volume levels as the set got underway, but Kravitz and one of the most spectacular bands I have seen in a very very long time did their thing and we all loved it! Band members included
Drums: Cindy Blackman Santana
Bass: Gail Ann Dorsey
Guitar: Craig Ross
Everyone had their moments to shine - you had the feeling that they were a team and just loved playing together. Definitely through the near 20 minute extended jam version of 'Always on the Run' - now that baby took a big chunk of the crowd (this author included) out to New York City for what it must feel like to be part of that Funky Jazz scene! Epic trumpet and sax - Hot Damn!!!
When Craig Ross struck the first few notes on his Sunburst Gibson to set in for the first of several monster guitar solos, holy cow... it made me wonder what it would have been like to see and hear Jimmy Page at the start of the Zeppelin journey - Sweet Jesus!
Kravitz spoke fondly of time spent in London and around Portobello Road in his mid twenties where a dude called Tyrone would help him out from time to time with some creative medicine... then he launched into one of my personal favourites 'New York City' from his new album 'Strut', released on his own label Roxie Records and licensed worldwide through Kobalt Label Services. A smart move for a smart man!
Lenny Kravitz loves making music. He loves playing live - and last night in London, 12,000+ people were chuffed to be able to see and hear it!
and here's youtube - Enjoy!
Live music was very much alive on Saturday night in London!
